Stephanie Mills legendary singer, songwriter and actress, rose to stardom as \u201cDorothy\u201d in the original Broadway run of the musical The Wiz from 1975 to 1977. The song \u201cHome\u201d from the show later became a Number 1 U.S. R&B hit for Mills and her signature song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the 1980s, Mills scored five Number 1 R&B hits, including \u201cHome\u201d, \u201cI Have Learned to Respect the Power of Love\u201d, \u201cI Feel Good All Over\u201d, \u201c(You\u2019re Puttin\u2019) A Rush on Me\u201d and \u201cSomething in the Way (You Make Me Feel)\u201d. Mills won a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her song \u201cNever Knew Love Like This Before\u201d in 1981.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mills sang gospel music as a child at Brooklyn\u2019s Cornerstone Baptist Church. After winning Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater six weeks straight at age eleven, Mills went on to become the opening act for the Isley Brothers. In 1973, Mills was signed to Paramount records by Michael Barbiero, and her first single \u201cI Knew It Was Love\u201d was released. Mills was later signed to Motown. Her first two albums there failed to produce a hit, and Mills left the label in 1976.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Towards the end of 2012, Mills released a new single \u201cSo In Love This Christmas\u201d, available for download.
