{"id":2142,"date":"2022-05-09T19:29:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-09T19:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apexsamplework.com\/insightnews\/?p=2142"},"modified":"2025-04-23T19:31:54","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T19:31:54","slug":"biden-administration-leads-55-nations-in-setting-new-global-internet-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apexsamplework.com\/insightnews\/2022\/05\/09\/biden-administration-leads-55-nations-in-setting-new-global-internet-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Biden Administration Leads 55 Nations in Setting New Global Internet Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Biden administration and 55 countries have partnered to call for a new Declaration for the Future of the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Administration officials said the declaration is part of a \u201cresponse to a rising trend of digital authoritarianism, including Russia\u2019s actions to block credible news sites and promote disinformation during and leading up to the invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The document spells out ways to promote a shared vision among the countries while acting within their jurisdictions and under their respective laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It focuses on internet safety, including promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms online and ensuring people globally can access safe and reliable Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the document, partners \u201cactively support a future for the Internet that is an open, free, global, interoperable, reliable, and secure. \u201cWe further affirm our commitment to protecting and respecting human rights online and across the digital ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPartners in this Declaration intend to work toward an environment that reinforces our democratic systems and promotes active participation of every citizen in democratic processes, secures and protects individuals\u2019 privacy, maintains secure and reliable connectivity, resists efforts to splinter the global Internet, and promotes a free and competitive global economy,\u201d administration officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further, the declaration\u2019s principles include commitments to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of all people;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote a global Internet that advances the free flow of information;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advance inclusive and affordable connectivity so that all people can benefit from the digital economy;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote trust in the global digital ecosystem, including through protection of privacy; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protect and strengthen the multistakeholder approach to governance that keeps the Internet running for the benefit of all.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn signing this Declaration, the United States and partners will work together to promote this vision and its principles globally,\u201d the White House said in a fact sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOver the last year, the United States has worked with partners from all over the world \u2013 including civil society, industry, academia, and other stakeholders to reaffirm the vision of an open, free, global, interoperable, reliable, and secure Internet and reverse negative trends in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cUnder this vision, people everywhere will benefit from an Internet that is unified unfragmented; facilitates global communications and commerce; and supports freedom, innovation, education, and trust.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Biden administration and 55 countries have partnered to call for a new Declaration for the Future of the Internet.
