Famed movie producer John Singleton has died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singleton, best known for the hit 1991 movie, \u201cBoyz N the Hood\u201d \u2013 which launched the careers of Ice Cube, Morris Chestnut and Cuba Gooding, Jr. \u2013 had been on life support after reportedly suffering a stroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was 51.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singleton was reportedly traveling back to Los Angeles from Costa Rica when he mentioned experiencing pain in one of his legs, according to Newsweek. Following transport to a California hospital, Singleton suffered a stroke and was emitted into ICU. His health continued to deteriorate, and he was put into a medically-induced coma just eight days after the stroke, TMZ reported. He had been on life support, but ultimately his family made the \u201cagonizing decision\u201d to remove him from life support on Monday (April 29), they said in a statement via Singleton\u2019s reps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Newsweek<\/em>, Singleton\u2019s family also noted the movie producer\u2019s battle with hypertension, a high blood pressure ailment of which African-Americans are particularly at risk for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cLike many African-Americans, Singleton quietly struggled with hypertension. More than 40 percent of African-American men and women have high blood pressure, which also develops earlier in life and is usually more severe,\u201d the statement read. \u201cHis family wants to share the message with all to please recognize the symptoms by going to Heart.org<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to \u201cBoyz N the Hood,\u201d which received two Oscar nominations, Singleton also directed classic films and shows that included \u201cPoetic Justice,\u201d \u201cHigher Learning,\u201d \u201cBaby Boy,\u201d \u201cFour Brothers,\u201d \u201c2 Fast 2 Furious,\u201d and others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Famed movie producer John Singleton has died.
