The planning and push to secure President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris\u2019 inauguration includes the vetting of those employed to keep them safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
U.S. defense officials have expressed deep concerns about a possible insider attack and threat from service members, according to a report from the Associated Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report claimed that the FBI has vetted all of the 25,000 National Guard troops expected in the nation\u2019s capital for the inauguration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The news wire service cited concerns that \u201cgripped Washington following the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump insurrectionists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd it underscores fears that some of the very people assigned to protect the city over the next several days could present a threat to the incoming president and other VIPs in attendance,\u201d the Associated Press noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told The Associated Press that officials are conscious of the potential threat, and he warned commanders to be on the lookout for any problems within their ranks as the inauguration approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re continually going through the process, and taking second, third looks at every one of the individuals assigned to this operation,\u201d McCarthy said in an interview after he and other military leaders went through an exhaustive, three-hour security drill in preparation for Wednesday\u2019s inauguration<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He told the Associated Press that Guard members are also getting training on how to identify potential insider threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
