Almost 30 years ago, author Sam McBratney and illustrator Anita Jeram published one of the most unique board book with a simple message expressing \u2018true love\u2019. I\u2019d like to share it with the \u201cInsight News\u201d readers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Little Nutbrown Hare, who was going to bed, held on tight to Big Nutbrown Hare\u2019s very long ears. He wanted to be sure that Big Nutbrown Hare was listening. \u201cGuess how much I love you,\u201d he said. \u201cOh, I don\u2019t think I could guess that,\u201d said Big Nutbrown Hare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis much,\u201d said Little Nutbrown Hare, stretching out his arms as wide as they could go. Big Nutbrown Hare had even longer arms. \u201cBut I love you this much,\u201d he said. Hmm, that is a lot, thought Little Nutbrown Hare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love you as high as I can reach,\u201d said Little Nutbrown Hare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love you as high as I can reach,\u201d said Big Nutbrown Hare. That is very high, thought Little Nutbrown Hare. I wish I had arms like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then Little Nutbrown Hare had a good idea. He tumbled upside down and reached up the tree trunk with his feet. \u201cI love you all the way up to my toes!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd I love you all the way up to your toes,\u201d said Big Nutbrown Hare, swinging him up over his head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love you as high as I can hop!\u201d laughed Little Nutbrown Hare, bouncing up and down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut I love you as high as I can hop,\u201d smiled Big Nutbrown Hare. And he hopped so high that his ears touched the branches above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s good hopping, thought Little Nutbrown Hare. I wish I could hop like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love you all the way down the lane as far as the river,\u201d cried Little Nutbrown Hare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love you across the river and over the hills,\u201d said Big Nutbrown Hare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s very far, thought Little Nutbrown Hare. He was almost too sleepy to think anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then he looked beyond the thornbushes, out into the big dark night. Nothing could be farther than the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI love you right up to the moon,\u201d he said, and closed his eyes. \u201cOh, that\u2019s far.\u201d Big Nutbrown Hare settled Little Nutbrown Hare into his bed of leaves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He leaned over and kissed him good night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then he lay down close by and whispered with a smile, \u201cI love you right up to the moon and back.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Read this tender story to your child(ren) or your young students. Have them draw what their image of Little and Big Nutbrown Hare might be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
